‘Hokkaido Swells’ – easily one of our favorite edits to drop so far this season. This crew gets after it in a variety of terrain & conditions on Japan’s northern Island of Hokkaido and even scores a few rare sunny days up in the alpine. Toss this one on the big screen! Surf’s up.
“A short film featuring Isaac Freeland, Sawyer Thomas & Leah Lange as they adventure through the Japanese Backcountry. Filmed and Edited by Riis Wilbrecht.”
“Japan’s Northern Island, Hokkaido, is host to a plethora of epic powder skiing adventures. Between the months of December to February, blizzards rarely lift from the island to offer alpine terrain skiing options. On this peculiarly warm and sunny year, our group of friends were there in time to experience the best of Hokkaido. A mix of alpine volcano skiing and deep powder tree skiing. The sheer amount of snow that Hokkaido receives feels as though you’re predicting swells how you would when surfing. The terrain of these volcanoes mimics frozen waves and one of a kind snow formations. Feeling the flow of terrain and excellent snow conditions our team found themselves riding the frozen wave of Japan. We hope you enjoy and adventure yourself to Japan to discover everything this amazing place has to offer.” – Riis Wilbrecht
